Rolling with the waves, salt spray on your face - how awesome is that? With some of Southern Sri Lanka’s coolest surfing spots so near to Tri, why not learn to ride the waves? A popular activity on the South coast, Kabalana (in Ahangama, closest to Tri), Midigama and Weligama are three key surf spots ideal for both beginners and experienced surfers. Several accredited training centres on these beaches offer surfing lessons with boards and gear for hire too.
Ahangama is considered one of the best places in Sri Lanka to learn surfing.
With over 5 km of coast, Ahangama has sand-bottomed swells ideal for learners.
Kabalana has gentle waves, also a good option for beginners .
There are two surfing seasons in the southern coast: wet
(May to October) and dry (November to April).
Lots of schools, guides (and promises) but always choose with care.
